Beautiful locally-made products displayed in a clean, orderly showroom. The director was on site and spoke good English. She arranged to have my purchases shipped to the U.S. in a very efficient manner.

Quiere vitrinear artesanía Kirgui? Visite este modesto local, dirigido por mujeres artesanas, que confeccionan todo tipo de productos en fieltro. Una maravilla poder apreciar el trabajo y esfuerzo.

It was a rainy weekday prior to peak tourist season and there were few other customers when we visited. We were not in the market for the expensive carpets (shrydaks) so we only bought some less expensive souvenirs. No matter! The head lady did the full demo of felt-making and cutting and sewing the appliqués for the two of us alone. There is a big variety of felt items to choose from as souvenirs, starting with the carpets and going down through coasters and hot pads, change purses, eyeglass cases, little stuffed animals, etc. We really enjoyed this stop and interacting with the owner.

If you don't have time to walk around Kochkor it's the best choice to stop by and get your souvenir however Kochkor has another choice - Kochkor Kutu Souvenir Shop that provides more variety than Altyn Kol and has some historical artefacts too. Altyn Kol mostly provides shyrdaks (carpets) and few magnets.

Altyn Kol is only handicraft shop and organization in Kyrgyzstan who gives a directly 83 % from the sale to local unemplyed women. We have variety of felt products , not only magnets.

Altyn Kol Souvenir Shop is now next to CBT Kochkor, offers good variety of souvenirs, mostly shyrdaks as I noticed and very few magnets. There's Kochkor Kutu Souvenir Shop that has better assortiment of handicrafts as well as antique findings.

Koschkor dürfte das Filzzentrum per se in Kigistan sein. Zwar findet man auch auf den Märkten in Osh und Bishkek oder auch im Kaufhaus Tsum in der Hauptstadt Stände bzw. Boutiquen, an bzw. in denen Filzwaren in Massen angeboten und gerne angenommen werden. Aber in Koschkor gibt es vollgestopft mit bunten Textilien, Borden und eben Walkstoffen das unter Kennern sogenannte „Filzkombinat“. Nicht nur als Mitbringsel sind die z.T. kurios anmutenden und authentisch kirgisischen Artikel bestens geeignet, die zudem recht kostengünstig offeriert werden. Ebenso fallen darunter einige recht praktische Utensilien, unter denen angenehm zu tragende, wärmende Filzpantoffeln auch für unsere Winter geeignet und zu meinem Lieblings-Schuhwerk zählen oder Sitzmatten unsere Küchenstühle zieren. Am liebsten hätte ich auch den dicken Mantel mit dem Wolfspelz mitgenommen, aber das wäre dann zum Tragen hierzulande wohl doch etwas auffällig und wahrscheinlich auf Dauer auch zu schwer gewesen– abgesehen davon, dass ich sicherheitshalber gar nicht erst nach dem Preis gefragt habe.

This is probably the only souvenir shop in Kochkor. It is located right beside the CBT office in Kochkor. We walked in while waiting for our private taxi to arrive. There is a reasonable variety of hand-made souvenirs available at a reasonable price. If you wish to buy some souvenirs from Kochkor, then probably this is to place to visit.

I have been to Altyn Kol many times and the staff is very helpful and easy going. I have bout many things from them. When I guide tourists I always stop at Altyn Kol to show them handmade products from Kochkor. I strongly recommend anyone to stop there and take a look at there shop. There prices are fair and the profits go to help local women in Kochkor.
