A real tourist trap and this applies to both the day visit of the Uros Islands and Taquile. Their goal is to take your money. In Uros you get off the ferry and are greeted by the (I think) “head of the family” of the island who speaks only Spanish and explains to you for about 15 minutes what the citizens are and what they do. Then you are sent to the stalls where they offer you goods that cost three times as much as Puno; they make you go on the typical boat that takes you to the Capital Island, the boat ride is paid for and on top there will be a child who will sing 2 songs and ask for money. After Uros there are 3 hours by boat and you move to Taquile where the same principle applies: get off, make the climb that takes you to the square, eat at the municipal restaurant, be sent to the craft shop and then you go back to the port tot. visit 2h scarce and return with as many 3 hours by boat that are endless. Also Taquile even worse than Uros because there is nothing! People only live on tourism and honestly Taquile is the “richest” place in Peru I have seen. At every step there is a child or an elderly person asking for money or a tax that you have to pay. You sense that their goal is not to introduce you to their life, their habits or their culture but to get your wallet out (compared to Italy, money is always scarce and ok but the principle behind it applies). I wouldn't put them in my schedule if I went back.

We spent two days with a local family in Taquile I think it was one of the best experiences you can live to know and appreciate this wonderful reality. We ate, played, walked with them: it was wonderful!

During my stay in Puno I visited the Taquiles Islands and was fascinated.

This was part of our Titicaca tour. It was bigged up to be much more than it was. Saying that it was really interesting to learn about how the locals live. We had lunch on the island which was actually pretty good. Was a nice chilled out day in the end but I wouldn’t be going out of my way to go here.

To taste the colors and places for the resume, all that you can visit on planet Earth; If you want to add one more, go to Taquile. If you want to walk up an island and reach 4050 meters above sea level and put your lungs to the test during a 30 to 60 minute walk, depending on your abilities, go to Taquile. If you've never had a nice panoramic view of an ocean, lake or body of water from the top of a hill, go to Taquile. If during your stay in Peru, including Puno, you have not seen an indigenous group dancing to the rhythm of native music, go to Taquile. If you didn't have the opportunity to buy handmade textiles elsewhere in Peru, with a surcharge for tourists, go to Taquile. If you want to see demonstrations of how indigenous men weave, with a paid photo, go to Taquile. If the information that the books give you about the culture of the indigenous community that inhabits Taquile Island did not convince you and you want to listen to it in situ for 10 scattered minutes, go to the island. If you want to sail around Lake Titicaca for 3 hours (round trip) for 115 to 130 soles, go to Taquile. If you've never had ordinary food for lunch on top of an island, without drinks included, go to Taquile. And if during your trip through Peru you have time and money to spare, and you don't know what to do, Taquile is the perfect place to do it.

Boat trip to this island of the Quechua people. Beautiful island. Watched these people dance and we joined in, great fun, with their colourful clothes and hats. Their handicrafts with the alpaca wool is amazing. Friendly people and had lunch at the highest point overlooking the lake which looked like a sea it is so vast. Great food. What a lovely trip, great memories.

Taquile Island is a beautiful, very peaceful little island on Lake Titicaca (Peruvian side). You can take beautiful walks there to discover the traditional places of Inca culture. On the village square, you can attend a traditional dance show.

Island Paradise!
Too cold in the winter but such a simple, uncomplicated life. Harmonious with neighbours and nature.
Stayed in a guesthouse .Cannot pinpoint the exact one as not listed. Part of a group tour. One night, Simple GOOD organic food.. Chilly room but lots of blankets.
Island relies of self sufficiency in farming in traditional methods, agritourism and fishing. Losing some of the younger generation to city and modern life but adapting a little and hanging in there for the future.
Do not just visit for the day, stay over Enjoy the tranquillity. Listen to the cock crow.
No WiFi !!!!!!!

Ich war 1981 nach einer Expedition auf den Salcantay mit meiner Frau eine Woche auf Taquille.
Damals bezeichneten wir die Insel als "den schönsten Platz der Welt" !
Gehört auf jedem Fall, so ursprünglich (ohne Show) wie wir dort alles erlebt haben, zu den fünf schönsten !

As others have mentioned, it's not so much the steepness of the hike because the path is good and fairly easy, but the altitude that gets you. Buy some coca candies in the store at the dock in Puno and that should help. Also, the boat guides usually carry some coca and munya leaves that people chew on to help with that alitude issue. We just took our time and stopped frequently to catch our breath. The views on the island are lovely!

Non esistono problemi particolari se si affronta la salita con passo calmo. Sono circa 30 minuti , io ho 70 anni e non ho avuto problemi

Hi Sandra! I am a 55 year old smoker with a knee that needs replacing but I did Tequille Island in January. It is not that bad and I was in no worse shape than the 20 something backpackers. However, since the boat drops you off on one side and picks you up on the other, once you start you have to finish! The climb down the other side is almost as challenging and the climb up. The lunch you get is delicious too! Enjoy and just stop a few times on the way and enjoy the amazing scenery!

Noi siamo andati in agosto e il clima è simile a quello della nostra primavera ma con una decisa escursione termica (ricorda che siamo sempre ad alta quota). Se c'è il sole, attorno a mezzogiorno si sta in maglietta volentieri ma la sera è meglio tirare fuori un maglione e un giaccone
