I bought some as souvenirs. I didn't know which one to choose, so I was grateful to be able to sample them. They were all delicious, so it was hard to choose. Unfortunately, I accidentally brought the chocolate drink home with me in my carry-on baggage, which was confiscated.

Nice and cosy place. Chocolate price is on the up side but worth buying as gift for others. Within the same area, there is elephant ride and sai/bear to see.

We went yesterday and agree 100% with everything previous reviewer said and back it up. We had no idea elephants were here. We are devestated we saw elephants chained up in the hot sun about six in line without roof or shelter. We watched attendants put hot metal chains around their legs. Ignorant tourists up to two adults and child on each elephant, they let the elephant babies into ring, they ran to the fence trying to get to their mothers, crying watching them being loaded with passengers. As to the solitary bear, he was pacing backwards and forwards on a small platform disturbed as if it was going crazy. This is an elephant and animal slave camp. Wake up humans, there is a thing called karma, it will come back to you if you partake in this soul destroying situation. We are broken hearted and because of this will never come back to Bali again, it is all about making money while others, mainly animals suffer.😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞

this place is a total rip off! you pay idr 95000 per person to go and sample some chocolate and get a chocolate drink of about 60ml. the first question of the staff was if we had done the elephant riding. which we didn't as everything gets charged extra. the lady was rude and unfriendly. no information or explanation was giving. needless to say we didn't spend more money to do a tour or anything else there.
save your money and go elsewhere!!!

Who doesn’t like chocolate?! If you are looking for a quieter activity after the thrill of white water rafting, quadbike riding and ziplining, a visit to Pod Chocolate fits the bill.
Its world-class delicacies, manufactured in Bali from locally grown cocoa beans, were originally produced in a small thatch-roofed hut (nicknamed the ‘smurf house’) nestled between rice paddies, jungle and a herd of rescued Sumatran elephants.
While the main factory no longer operates here, this original site in the Bali Elephant Camp in Carangsari remains. (As the location is off the beaten track and can be hard to find, it is easier to engage a driver.) It has been redeveloped and now includes a café, where you can learn how chocolate is made on a cursory ten-minute tour, as well as make your own chocolate bars (100,000 rupiah per person).
After a complimentary chocolate drink, you can sample some of the more than 20 mouth-watering flavours. Be tempted by Mocha, Fruit & Nut or more exotic varieties such as Goji Berry and Coconut, Sea Salt and Cocoa Nibs, Rosella Flower and Cashew, Banana Chips and Clove, Chili, Ginger and Lemongrass, Honeycomb, Salted Peanut or Cranberry.
Then it’s time to try your hand at creating your own signature treats. You can choose either milk, dark or white chocolate to fill the elephant shaped moulds and add up to three toppings, from nuts, coconut, cocoa nibs, goji berries to hundreds and thousands, to create your own delicious treats.
While you are waiting for these to set, you can indulge in a snack at the café, wander through the Elephant Camp, which offers elephant trekking as well as a buffet lunch, or spend some time with the resident sun bear (see separate review).
With the options available, there are plenty of activities the whole family can enjoy, although it can be an expensive day out, quite apart from being tempted by the huge array of delicious chocolate products for sale. Pod also produces a range of pouches with other chocolate coated goodies – almonds, trail mix, coffee beans, cacao beans and banana chips. We were tempted to buy some as souvenirs, but thought better of it as we were concerned about melting. I have since learned that you can buy Pod chocolate at the airport on your way out of Bali.
It costs 95,000 rupiah to enter the Bali Elephant Camp precinct on top of the costs for the different activities within the park. It is quite confusing when you are offered the complex ticket options at the entrance. Unfortunately, there is no web site which allows you to see what the different packages include in advance so you have to be careful not to be bamboozled into buying more than you actually want – it certainly adds up with a family of five. Four of us participated in the chocolate making, while the youngest grandchild also enjoyed the sun bear experience first-hand (20,000 rupiah). We found at the end we had some credits left which allowed us to buy bananas to feed the elephants.
We collected our finished products packed and labelled in bags ready to take home. However, ours never made it back to our villa in Legian as they were all consumed with our driver in the car on the way back! Scrumptious!

A trip to Ubud would not be complete without taking a chocolate factory tour & making your own bar! The guides are friendly & make the tour enjoyable & informative. Relatively easily accessible from Ubud by scooter.

Everything’s priced separately. 10$ per person entry, separate charge for elephant rides. I walked in and the first thing after the ticket purchase I experienced at the reception was not about the experience but asked if I need to do elephant rides, then there is a separate charge..
Included is chocolate tasting and a drink. Pay extra for the chocolate making experience.
Only if you have an additional day and keen to spend, else visit the Ubud markets and spend time there spending and buying from the needy.

If you love chocolate you must visit this place!
Entry to the location includes a free hot chocolate drink from pod factory and includes tasting of over 20 chocolates they do.
If you want the “tour” it is extra but they show you in ten minutes how it’s done, with a lady showing you the plants around the corner and explaining what the man is doing behind the glass.
You also get to “make” an elephant by putting chocolate into a mould.
The bonus apart from the chocolate is seeing the elephants that are on the grounds, feeding the baby elephants and getting pictures with them.

Hi, We would love to hug the Honey Bear! Do we need to book the tour in order to do so? Or can we simply visit this location, buy some chocolate, and hug a bear?
When you are in Bali the honey bears will kindly decline your offer of a hug, because they dont like to be beaten and drugged for the photoshoot.
We are heading to Bali next week and would love to do the tour and hug a bear, but I am seeing multiple Pod locations - which one has the bears? Thanks!
Why would you want to hug the Honey bear? They are wild animals, kept in captivity in terrible conditions. Before thinking about that, you should research a bit about the problems with animals in Asia and in the world. Most of them are getting drugged in order to be friendly photo.
Not sure. but it depends on the condition of the bear at that time.
You chain and cage a bear and probably drug it so people can take pictures with it? How has no one stopped you yet?
We already have a driver for the day, do we have to pre-book tickets for the chocolate tour (if so from where?) or can we just turn up? What would be a good time to go and how long do we need to allow? (we r coming from Kuta). Thanks in advance
You are able to purchase tickets without reservation. Keep in mind that you will need to pay for entry to the reserve area where the factory is located. You pay at the gate but you are able to deduct money for the tour from that price once you arrive at the ticket counter. I would say to allow for about 1.5+ hours. The "tour" is very short as you are in a small area. However you will be able to make your own chocolate elephant candies...and they take time to set. While they are "setting" you will be able to look around the grounds. There is also a small cafe.

I love the idea of seeing and getting up close with a honey bear, but am also sceptical to whether it is ok for the animals? I'd hate to contribute to a business that potentially mistreats animals etc.

Hi there, based on my last visit. The keeper not push the bear for taking a photo with the guest. I'm waiting around 45 minutes to taking a photo with the bear. Because the bear still wanna laying down and eating the food. I'm also waiting the bear to have good mood first, before taking a photo.
The keeper was good and kind person :)

Are we able to jus hug the bears and skip the chocolate factory tours?

Hello,
I read in the write up and saw a photograph about the ticket to see the Honey Bears being 10USD. Are you not able to pay in IDR?
Thank you,
Naomi
Yes you can pay in rupiah. We did the chocolate tour and made our own chocolates which was 250,000 rupiah (about nz or Australia $25) but we got about 2 meters away from sun bears (or honey bears) for free and got up close to rescue elephants too for free. I think I read you could hug the bears and maybe that is what you are saying ? They looked friendly but they have long long claws..... a up my and daddy one and a three year old kept separately. They have started a breeding program. My husband had already been bitten by a monkey so we were not keen on up close and personal any longer.

How much is it just for the chocolate tour? No lunch and we have our own driver
Hi Kerrie, from memory it was about 150,000 - 2000,00RP per person to make the chocolate and the tour. It is a lot cheaper than paying what we did. I would do it the way you want to when we go back with friends next time. The tour is very quick as the factory is very small , most of it due to health reasons is looking through a window to the chocolate making bench, and then they gown you up and let you make your own moulds from various chocolate. The place is very beautiful and is situated in an Elephant park which adds to the tour. Hope this helps
