An der südöstlichsten Ecke der Altstadt steht die deutsche Kirche. Ein Besuchs ist sie wert. Hinter der Kirche läuft man an alten Grabsteinen auch von Ritter vorbei und kommt zum Aufstieg zur Ringmauer.

The top attraction of beautiful Murten must be a walk on its well preserved town walls. The main access to it is just in front of the Deutsche Kirche (German Church), a baroque building from the beginning of the 18th century for the German speaking inhabitants of the Reformed Church, which were the majority here anyway. It was built at the site of a Gothic chapel from around 1400, which now forms the choir of the church. On the quite low whitewashed flat ceiling one can see a stucco with the coat of arms of Berne, Fribourg and Murten. Above the entrance is a gallery with an organ from 1947.
Outside there are old tombstones by the side walls, while at the front is a bronze statue of a standing man. It represents one of the greatest epic writers of Swiss literature, known under his pen name 'Jeremias Gotthelf', who as pastor at Lützelflüh wrote powerful novels about the Emmental. Just opposite the German Church is the rectory, where he was born as Albert Bitzius, son of the pastor of Murten.
