Beautiful beach with lovely clear water and great for snorkelling with lots of fish. Enjoyed the swim to Kastri island to ring the bell. However my husband tried to climb onto the larger rocks round the island while he was snorkelling just before we were leaving and was stung badly by something. We thought it was a jellyfish but lifeguard said he'd had an allergic reaction to (we assume) poisonous plants/algae on rocks. Massive really painful nasty burn/sting across stomach which hurt for hours and he still has a rash two weeks later.

We visited Agios Stefanos beach twice in Oct 2023 despite staying near Kos town we liked it enough that we visited a second time. This was my favourite beach on Kos. The ruins are worth seeing and the beach itself is clean and easy to access. There are plenty of sunbeds on the beach but there is also plenty of clear sand if you don't want to pay for a sunbed. Kastri Islet is interesting and easy to swim to although I couldn't see a way to reach the top of the highest part of the rocky outcrop (and I suspect there were birds up there that are best left undisturbed). On our second visit we did some snorkelling and found there was a reasonable amount to see. The water was calm and clear and a good temperature.

Voor een commerciele ervaring fantastisch, maar er zijn zeker mooiere stranden in de omgeving. Uitzicht op het kleine eilandje wel leuk natuurlijk.
Wij wilden ook even wat eten maar was geen taverna open op het strand alles ging pas om 18u open.. Ik vond de algehele ervaring teleurstellend, maar misschien was mijn verwachting te hoog, omdat dit strand zo hoog scoorde

Location splendida!!! Acqua favolosa, spiaggia con acqua bassa.....paesaggio stupendo!!! Da cartolina. Il bagno a destra un po sgangherato ma personale gentile.

Favolosa spiaggia nei pressi di Kefalos.
Raggiungibile facilmente percorrendo la strada principale che va dall'aeroporto in direzione Kefalos e sciendendo di poche centinaia di metri in discesa, ci sono alcuni parcheggi comunque.
Le rovine di un'antica Chiesetta sul mare dividono due versanti di spiaggia.
Su quello più a nord, con un fondale sabbioso e cristallino si affaccia l'affascinante isoletta di Castri con la sua chiesetta caratteristica bianca e azzurra.
La si può raggiungere percorrendo alcune decine di metri camminando in acqua e poi ancora alcune decine di metri a nuoto.
Si possono utilizzare anche alcune imbarcazioni.
Da non perdere, noi l'abbiamo raggiunta a nuoto, ed è stata un'esperienza unica ed elettrizzante.
Arrivati lì bisogna suonare la campana ed esprimere un desiderio.

Pretty beach but a bit dirty with quite a lot of rubbish in the sea which spoilt it. You need to wear shoes to walk into the sea as the stones hurt your feet. Loved the view of the islet but preferred other beaches in Kos.

Bellissima spiaggia, facilmente raggiungibile con ampio parcheggio, consiglio di arrivare presto al mattino per prenotare un ombrellone e due lettini al costo di 10 €. Molto carina l'isoletta difronte alla spiaggia raggiungibile a nuoto o con un pedalò, dove si può ammirare una carinissima Chiesetta. Il mare è limpido degrada dolcemente ideale per famiglie con bambini. Il giorno che siamo stati noi era pieno di famiglie italiane.

La spiaggia più famosa e turistica di Kefalos (e di Kos in generale).
Mare ottimo per i bambini, con fondale basso e sabbioso. Bella la vista sull'isola di Kastry di fronte, raggiungibile a nuoto, in pedalò, in canoa, come volete.
Tuttavia: costo di due lettini ed un ombrellone di 20 euro al giorno. Per Kos, è molto. Tendenza al sovraffollamento, la spiaggia nel tratto coi lettini è zona di passaggio e c'è sempre grande via vai di gente. Inoltre, la parte 'sabbiosa' è poca perchè il bagnasciuga è molto vicino, quindi poco spazio per i castelli di sabbia e le buche.
Piccolo chioschetto per le bibite e il cibo nel parcheggio sterrato gratuito (molto vicino alla spiaggia, quindi di nuovo si ha quasi l'impressione di essere sulla strada).
Sicuramente da vedere, e da trascorrervi una giornata. Se si vuole usufruire dei lettini in prima fila (unica zona ventilata) meglio arrivare prima delle 9.30. La spiaggia ha una seconda zona, oltre le rovine greche, che però è dedicata agli ospiti di un bellissimo villaggio turistico. Solo al fondo di questa seconda parte sul lato sud-est della costa c'è ancora un piccolo lembo di spiaggia libera.
4 stelle per il mare molto bello, la posizione riparata dal vento, e la magica atmosfera di passeggiare tra le rovine di un vecchio tempio greco con vista sull'isolotto di Kastry.

Spiaggia con resti che potrebbero essere valorizzati di più.
Di fronte alla spiaggia c'è l'isola di Kastri che può essere raggiunta facilmente, anche in pedalò.

Bella spiaggia attrezzata con vista sull'isolotto di Kastri. Peccato il via vai di moto d'acqua e motoscafi e la passeggiata lungomare che andrebbe decisamente sistemata

How do you get up to the church on Kastri Island in Kos ? Is there a road? or how many steps? i have mobility problems

You can hire a pedalo, however there is a large up from the boat, this leads to a concrete, quay, and then uneven paths and poorly constructed steps. My advice, sit on the beach and admire from a distance!

Buongiorno, si può raggiungere in bus questa spiaggia?
Non sono a conoscenza di bus che portano direttamente lì, ma so che ci sono fermate di autobus che portano in zona e poi si raggiunge la spiaggia facendo quattro passi a piedi.

Not really, no. Most of the bars are on the main road, I recommend Dolphin Rock Cafe, great atmosphere in there. But you would need to go further down towards the main Kefalos bit to reach bars and tavernas

en effet le cub med est parti en 2009 ,mais le site bien que laisser a l’abandon est gardé ,soit qu'il soit revendu ou le club doit le remettre au norme ,mais le site vaut le coût que l'on l'exploite ,posez la question a l’intéressé ? sans doute l'image de l’île du moment ,car il y a eu moins de touriste cette année

Hi, can anyone tell me which bus goes from Kos Town to Agios Stefanos beach? Any other information like how long it takes and where the bus stops, etc, would really be appreciated.

Not sure of the times of the buses although there are some and not far to walk from the main road. You can drive there its about 40 km so that depends on your mode of transport car bike quad or bus. Well worth the trip we went several times to that beach its worth it but we stayed in Kefalos so we could wzlk from our hotel.
