Review Li Du Hotel Arrived in Huaihua on overnight train from Kunming with no plans or booking made. Tried one or two hotels around the station but no value for money. Came upon the Li Du on the Main Street not too far from the train station and recognized it from a list of names on Tripadvisor. Though almost no English was spoken, staff was friendly and willing, and we were able to see a room or two. Plus they quickly offered a good discount where others did not. Positive: Big twin room with tv, Internet connection, kettle, free breakfast, good location near train station, shopping malls and night market, good value for money Negative: Room smelled strongly of smoke ( though that is probably true of all Chinese hotel rooms). A deluxe double that they showed us smelled of something worse than smoke. There is a wonderful, lively street market surrounding a large wet market just down from the train station. (Head straight down the busy street you see if the train station is behind you. Wushui or Renmin?) Lots of stalls selling fast food and everyday items.…
We stayed here for two nights in December, they were unable to accept International credit cards. The hotel rooms are being refurbished and ours appeared to be the only one being used on our floor. The other rooms along our corridor were totally gutted, doors and windows stood wide open and there was nothing in them. Our room was very, very tired and smelt of smoke, it was so bad that I couldn't wait to get outside into the smoggy day for some fresh air. I don't know whether there were more rooms like this or whether we were given 'any old' room as we couldn't complain. Having said all of that the room was warm and despite the language barrier, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
