We stayed in this hotel 2 nights with friends . Just horrible . Commons areas are just a mess, rooms are horribles , no service , no towel , shower room for everybody without any cleaning, no maintenance . Never ever
I was looking forward to coming back to Zamami for the second time. I found this place online and it looked nice, so I booked over the phone and checked in.
The first problem is that there is no key at all to the rooms! You can only lock the door to your room when you're in there, and not when you're out all day! You may be thinking "Japan is so safe, so no worries," but keep reading to learn what sort of dodgy clientele this place attracts.
The behavior of the other (Japanese) guests staying at the same time as me was absolutely appaling. They were heavily tattooed, 'yankii' types, who travelled as a large group and were drinking heavily their whole trip.
The first night they had a loud party just outside the guest house until around 2am. 2am is extremely late on this island considering most everything shuts down by around 9pm. I assumed the staff would say something about it the next day and they would be quiet the next night. But the next night was even much worse.
This group of about 4 or 5 guys got even more drunk the next night and for some reason came to the area of the guest house where I was staying. After midnight they were yelling and screaming and banging on random doors just next to mine. I came outside to politely remind them (in Japanese) that people were trying to sleep and they mumbled an apology before continuing on even louder than before.
I tried calling the guest house reception but no answer. I couldn’t believe no staff was coming to warn them. I went out to warn them a few more times and each time they got angrier and more aggressive. I think if I'd confronted them one more time then things may have even gotten physical.
I finally got ahold of the guest house staff (it was past 1am by now) and they finally came and told them to return to their rooms. I can only imagine that if I wasn’t there at the time, they would’ve opened my unlocked door and could’ve messed with all my belongings.
The worst part was how the next morning the staff were so polite to this group (who were luckily checking out the next day). Apparently these wannabe gangsters are repeat guests of the inn.
While I can’t blame the guest house directly for the noise, not only did they not take action to ensure the comfort and safety of their other guests, but they were even telling these troublemakers the next day to come back again! And they gave them sweets on their way out! Ridiculous.
This is some of the worst behavior I’ve witnessed at a guest house not just in Japan but anywhere in the world. I do not recommend anyone stay here as there are so many other places on the island that cost the same per night in cleaner and more modern buildings.
