Lathop who runs the homestay is an amazing host.... Not only is the homestay truly beautiful, rustic and peaceful, it's so calm and serene that birds wake you up in the morning and come right till the doorstep and pose for pictures. There are some nice hiking trails around that you can do on your own and if you feel really adventurous ask Lathop to be your guide for the harder routes. With Lathop as my guide,we went to a waterfall that was far away from any roads or people and it was one of the best hikes I have ever done. Strongly recommend staying here. To reach the homestay you need to walk through a path so I recommend light packing or rucksacks instead of suitcase. Also, do ensure you have proper trekking shoes for the treks and if you're an avid trekker then definitely consider some of the tougher routes recommended by Lathop.…
My first Solo trip and it was an amazing one. While planning the trip I had briefly read about the Khecheopalri Lake... But being there for 2 days made me realize it's importance. To the beauty and serenity of the lake added the best hospitality that Latup had to offer. An amazing person and an amazing guide/friend. For me he ensured that I reach the place comfortably and made all arrangements for a very comfortable stay. His Mother cooks extremely tasty food which will make you feel at home. I had the most perfect stay at the Khecheopalri Sanctuary Homestay which is very close to the lake (5 mins walk) and has an amazing view. This is an authentic Sikkimese wooden house beautifully decorated with colourful flags having a cozy fireplace. The place itself has such great vibes in which one can be lost. You can also join in when Latup practices his daily meditation.... :)…
Being just above the lake (you access the homestay via a path behind a tea hut next to the entrance to the jetty at the lake) this is a great location. The lake viewpoint is five minutes away and the homestay is behind the old monastery. The views are terrific and and the accommodation good (shared shower, loos, and basin room, with hot water). Latop is a good host with lots of local information and looking to develop his own growing of vegetables. The shared lounge with open wood fire (built by an Italian guest) is a great snug in the cold evening and a good place to socialise.
