Never slept in a bed with such firm matresses. Or rather, we did not sleep. Some relieve came from the cushions from the chair in our executive room. Noise from the elevator and the neighbours. But there are some plusses. Like clean rooms with a decent bathroom. Nothing fancy, but everything works. Electricity, airco, hot shower. Local 4 star hotel. Have some noodles, some cheap drinks or enjoy the fine selection of condoms. This place even might be your best choice in the Yongding province. One of the staff members does speak English. Ideal for us to explain our driver what we wanted to visit next.
The hotel should have two restaurants: Chinese and Western style. During our visit the Chinese restaurant was closed and the other one only offered an all you can eat steamboat buffet. Many locals seemed to enjoy the food ... and us eating it. May we suggest the mushrooms? Or are you in for 'we eat everything with legs but no table and everything with wings but no planes'? You like to spit on the floor or burp? No problem.
Breakfast is included. But it's only for the real adventurers. If you at least can find the buffet through the curtain of smoke hanging in the breakfast room.
Some tips: - Do visit the town centre. It's extremely ugly, but you will have fun with the locals. - Buy some cakes at one of the few cake shops in town. You will need it as breakfast. - The tulou are some 40km away. The hotel makes a good stop on a two day tour from Xiamen but is can be difficult to arrange transport from the hotel to the tulou. We had our own driver. - spend 5 USD at the local market for a softdeck on your bed.
