This place was amazing! If youre driving, the road up to Bangor Ridge is twists and turns, make sure you honk before you go around turns as you never know whats around the next bend!!
Our guide met us in town and took us on the 1km hike into the jungle to the cabin. Theres no power but there is cell service. The views of the mountains with the clouds and mist rolling over are amazing. Our hosts were very friendly and played a jamaican board game with us, and after we had some great curried chicken with rice and corn.
Then we went into town at dusk and hung out with the locals and had a few beers! The locals were friendly and entertaining! We met some of the hosts family and hiked in the pitch black with lights back up the mountain to have what felt like one of the best sleeps ive ever had.
If you want to get away into the middle of nowhere snd experience true peace and quiet, i highly recommend this place!!
Highly recommended for nature lovers and those seeking authentic experiences, off the beaten track. Simple yet comfy cabins or camping on a pristine mountainside, with changing light and cloud shows on the surrounding mountains, several species of hummingbirds fighting over the feeder, and no noise except for the rushing river far below. This is one of the more unique experiences to be had, if you enjoy being immersed in nature. A great place to relax and recharge or else tackle the many hiking opportunities in the mountains.
I ended up staying for 7 days without hardly leaving basecamp, just enjoying the tranquility, beauty, incredible food and great company of Jasmine and Jadda. They take amazing care of their guests - considering the challenges of the location - and bend over backwards to ensure your comfort while also respecting your privacy, when needed. I was amazed to wake up the first morning to see a deluxe, new hammock on the veranda, after asking about one the night before. Somehow, things appeared through the magic of Jasmine and Jadda, despite the remote location, and I made sure to tip them generously in appreciation. As in most (rural) places in Jamaica, poverty is a major challenge and your tourist dollars and tips go along way when spent with locals in places like these. In 'the hills', an added bonus is that you can often buy quality ganja, coffee or tobacco straight from farmers - a real win/win situation.
