Swn y Nant

Swn y Nant is just outside Y Felinheli (English Port Dinorwic) and was very pleasant. The only negative was that the room was not en suite though the bathroom was shared with only one other room (which happened to be empty that night). The lady was very welcoming and the room itself was good (it had four beds, all of which were clean and the one we chose was comfortable. The lady is not Welsh (Filipina possibly) and her accent was a little difficult to follow but cooked a lovely breakfast. When another guest commented favourably on her plants she immediately gave her one to take home and refused any payment for it. The cost was £60 for the night which is maybe what one would expect for an en suite room but I would certainly stay there again.

Our impression was so different from two of the three other revies that i wondered if their are two but it seems not. However when i was checking I discover that it is for sale!!

Disgusted!

I had booked this hotel for three nights we were on a memory lane tour with my parents who were in their eighties, we arrived at the hotel in the late afternoon pouring with rain my parents were tired and needed a rest but straight away I could see that the place looked run down. The lady (owner ) ran out from the reception area to hand out keys to our rooms again, I thought that was odd - we wanted to see the lounge and bar facilites and restaurant, this was the main reason for booking hotel so we didn't need to go out in the evenings. We were informed that they did not do evening meals! The corridor to our rooms reeked of smoke and our rooms were dark and dingy fared no better, our bedding just reeked of smoke, how we stayed just for one night I don't know but having elderly parents we had no choice. We left the next day never to return

Swnynant bed and breakfast is now under new management. I can only apologise for the unpleasant experience you've had. All rooms have now been renovated and modernise. I can assure you our aim is to provide our guests clean and comfortable place to stay.

Good short break

We stayed here on a short notice trip visiting family. The owner was charming and the room clean & fresh. Breakfast good.

We didn't use the bar facility in the lounge, but the overall impression was good. Recommended for a short break.

Frighteningly awful

DONT STAY HERE!!!!!

My wife and I travel to Bangor regularly on business. We usually arrive after 8pm and having driven for 4-5 hours, we are really not looking for much, just a nice clean room with a decent bathroom and bed. This hotel fails to meet any of these meagre criterion. The hotel is conveniently placed off a major road (NB the location is convenient, not attractive). It has a Chienese restaurant within 50 yards, although we did not eat there.

When we arrived, we were informed that the en suite double room we had booked was no longer available because the owners cousin had shown up unexpectedly and he had been given the room instead. As a further insult, we were told that the owners cousin wouldn't mind if we wanted to have a look at the room we had booked! Instead of the en suite double room we had booked, but could no longer have, we were given a family room, equipped with four single beds just a short walk away from the toilet and bathroom (and at no extra cost!). But, the owner added, we were in luck because this bathroom had the nicest shower in the hotel...

There was an unpleasant smell in the hotel. I have worked as a refuse collector while completing my degree and the aroma at the Swn-y-Nant brought those memories flooding back...

Our room was extremely dark - often a bad sign. In the morning we realised why it was kept that way. It was filthy. I am not fussy by nature, but I felt distinctly uncomfortable sleeping in the bed I chose (from the four available), and my wife (who is slightly more discerning than I) slept in her clothes on top of the sheets.

We were intrigued to find a copy of the Daily Mirror from 2001 on the wardrode, which we didn't open out of fear for what was lurking inside (and I refer both to the wardrobe and the newspaper). My guess is it was 2001 when the room had last been 'properly' cleaned. Kim and Aggie would have had a field day - if they ever do a show here, I do not want to see the results.

The shower was good, but my evaluation may be based more upon the relief to wash after spending a night in the pit than the actual standard of amenities.

At breakfast, we were presented with a hearty feast of a cooked breakfast. My wife and I ate the toast... Once again, we were encouraged to look at the room we had booked, but could not have (with the en suite and double bed). The owners cousin would probably be up by now, but in any case, he wouldn't mind us having a look...

The sense of relief we felt on leaving was soon replaced by the feeling of indignation that we had paid £65 for the stay. Shortly after our stay, the next day to be precise, my wife showed signs of a nasty infection - I cannot comment on causality, and would not be so bold as to state categorically that it was as a result of staying at the hotel, but you have to agree that the coincience is telling.

In short, do not stay here. If you do, have a look around the double en suite room for me, the owners cousin will probably be there, but he wont mind!!!
