Positive points about this chalet The three course evening meals were well prepared and plentiful, the open fire was large and supplied with logs, plus the chalet staff are helpful - the chef’s husband very kindly offered to drive our children to the pick up point on the first day of their skiing lessons as we were running late. Negative points If you’re planning to spend any time at this chalet during the day then this is NOT the chalet for you. During the morning, the sitting room/dining room area is used by chef and her husband so that they can eat their breakfast, surf the internet, check their emails, carry out their internet banking, and relax. This carries on until lunchtime. Even on days when they both leave the chalet mid morning, they will still return at midday for their lunch. In my opinion, if catered chalet staff are advertised as ‘living out’ then they should not be eating 3 meals a day at the chalet. This ‘real gem’ of a property sadly falls short in other areas too. Firstly, breakfast was rather a disappointment. It consisted of bread, yogurt, and cereal...the one piece of cooked breakfast that was offered was eggs, but what one person had everyone had to have, no variation. That was it. No croissant, no brioche, no fresh coffee, and no fresh juice on the first day either. Secondly, in this chalet, if your bedroom is the one next to the kitchen, despite being advertised as a ‘double with private en-suite facilities’ then be warned that the chalet chef and her husband use your toilet all the time... Finally, the "luxury games room" is in-fact a freezing cold garage filled with junk, DVDs, rubbish, old boards and logs, and it's also the room where you store your skis and boots...it did have a table football table in the middle of the room - but this was also covered in rubbish and looked well past it's use by date...! All in all, some great aspects, but definitely room for improvement...

7 of us stayed in Chalet Pige in March 2011, which is run by Evasion Travel. We had a fantastic time. The chalet is in Le Praz, which is a beautiful village with some good bars (especially Cave des Lys) and a Michelin-starred restaurant (Azimut). A much better base than Courchevel 1850, we thought. The food at the chalet was excellent, with superb cakes each day and good wine. The chalet was really clean and cosy, with nice touches like an iPod dock, a pool table and a good selection of DVDs. Evasion Travel is clearly very well run - e.g. the lift passes were ready for us when we arrived, and the ski/boot hire guy came to measure us up and then delivered all the kit to the chalet the night we arrived. They've got a few chalets around Le Praz. Organising a ski holiday can be a bit of a hassle, but they made it really easy. By the way, we got skiing lessons from Momentum Sports, which we'd also recommend.

8 adults (7 skiers, 3 of whom were beginners, and 1 snowboarder) stayed at Chalet Pige in Le Praz 1300 in Feb 2010. The chalet is catered and run by Adam, Annabel and Janine at Evasion travel. The chalet is superb, really comfortable with an open log fire and TV with satellite channels. Each bedroom had its own en suite room and there is also a downstairs addition to the chalet which can be opened up to accommodate 4 more people. There is also a games room with table football, pool, and a ski-boot warmer! We were met at the chalet on the eve we arrived by the ski-boot fitters, and all our hire equipment was dropped off early the next morning so no messing about in queues at hire shops etc. First time I've hired a pair of ski's with a glass of wine in my hand! The first day Annabel took us out skiing to show us the slopes and guide us round before we started lessons the day after. After that, if they were free and we wanted them to, they were happy to ski/snowboard with us and show us the best runs. There is also a luge which is open on an evening and great fun, if a little bit fast and dangerous at times. As Annabel is fluent in French it was immensely useful in sorting out the different ski passes we all required. If you go here as a beginner skier/snowboarder you may be able to get cheaper day passes rather than buy a whole weekly pass as you won’t need access to the whole area. Similarly if you haven’t skied this area before then a Courchevel pass only will be enough for one week, rather than the more expensive 3 valleys pass. It's possible to ski directly back to the chalet from one of the red runs (though this can get icy towards the end of the day so not for beginners). The walk to the ski lift isn't too far and will take you direct to 1850. The food is superb, and our chalet host Jen easily catered for different tastes (inc 2 vegetarians, 2 non pork eaters, and 1 egg-hater)! The inclusive price included breakfast of french baguette, eggs, yoghurt, home-made jams, cereal, fruit, juice tea and coffee, with no limitation on the amount you wanted to eat other than our own full stomachs! - Hence no need to buy an expensive lunch on the slopes mid-ski. Dinner was aperitifs followed by three inventive and delicious courses. Dinner also included copious amounts of great wine sourced from French vineyards, or beer for the non wine drinkers, which was a great selling point considering a glass of beer in the local cafe's was approx 5 Euro's. There were also freshly baked cakes/flapjacks etc for when we returned from the slopes in the afternoon - so much food I cam back heavier than I went out despite skiing 5 hours a day! We had one day not catered, though breakfast was still included on a ‘get it yourself from the fridge’ basis. Evasion travel was great in recommending places to go for dinner that night and even made our reservation. It was definitely a good idea to have one day not catered as it meant we saw more of the area. Overall we left feeling as though we’d made great friends with the guys at Evasion, and we were definitely well looked after. With the pound so weak against the euro, and the reputation of Courchevel as being one of the most expensive ski resorts in Europe, a catered chalet which includes wine is definitely the bargain of the century and I recommend Chalet Pige.
