There was always going to be trouble when the hotel's driver turned up late with the excuse of being delayed by an accident on the highway. Don't get me wrong, there's accidents on the highway every day; lots of them. Of course, because he's late, he needs then to drive like Fangio in his little van, either trying to impress me or because he's now late for another job. He's quite a good driver though, being able to exceed the speed limit, maintain a space of not less than one metre from the vehicle in front and chat on the phone at the same time. Jump ahead a few days to the airport drop off and he didn't speed, but he did manage to down a cup of tea whilst driving. In fact he even offered me some. I respectfully declined. Now to the hotel. First impressions of the lobby will let you know immediately what type of hotel this is. In typical Indian style, the sensor doors are turned off, along with half the lights in the lobby area. This saves electricity you see. The building seems to be fairly new, maybe a couple of years old, but a bit below what I'm used to from my clients. Check in was smooth enough, and a bell boy took my bag to the room, and promptly departed without explaining how anything works save the internet login details. So I set about exploring my self contained apartment. A nice, large bedroom with a king sized bed and two of the smallest, lightest pillows you've ever seen. A quick sit on the bed found a spring poking into my bum. Let's check out the tv. No instructions, so the usual struggle through the AV settings - which one is the tv, which one for the satellite etc. Took a few minutes and found all channels are in Arabic or Hindi. No big issue as I had a plan to watch re runs of Game of Thrones on my lap top anyway. Into the en suite we go. Small but functional, with one of those fancy modularised showers with multiple shower heads. I thought it was a nice touch. More on the en suite shower later. Next it's into the kitchen, complete with oven, hotplates, fridge and plenty of storage. A quick check revealed no kettle, no cutlery, no crockery, no cooking utensils, no saucepans, no frying pans, no complimentary tea or coffee - nothing. This little bear went to the cupboard and the cupboard was bare. I was hankering for a coffee, so I rang the restaurant six times before anybody answered, and ordered a coffee with milk and sugar, then asked for some coffee, sugar, tea and a kettle to be delivered to the room. The restaurant declined to provide a cup of fresh brewed coffee, but did bring a kettle, coffee, tea, a tiny cup and a spoon. After I boiled my kettle and prepared my coffee, I realised that there was no milk, so I again rang the restaurant to ask for it to be delivered. The room service guy promptly advised me in no uncertain terms that "milk isn't free!" to which my reply was "Well charge me for it!" Five minutes later someone in a grubby uniform arrived to deliver my milk, which came in a drinking glass, about three quarters full and so hot I burnt my hand picking it up (no handle you see). He then asked for payment and I said to put it on my room, to which he replied "No credit, sir." Having determined that this was a trash hotel, I declined to argue the point and paid 500 Baiza (USD1.30) for the milk. Dear reader, are you getting the picture yet? I'm not finished! I couldn't let the other major disappointment go without sharing it with you, and I am referring to the en suite shower with the fancy pants shower. I awoke the next morning and tried to have a shower. The hot water came on full force, but no cold water was available. I found the wall mounted control beside the toilet and turned it on, only to find a dribble of cold - not enough to mix the temperature down from "scalding." Oh well, luckily there was a second shower in the other bathroom adjacent to the lounge room. Sure, it was small with no shower curtains and I had to stand with one leg on the toilet seat to use it, but it served it's purpose. Ok, so by now you should understand I was not entirely impressed with the hotel. Apart from the above, other noticeable issues are: exposed wiring anywhere and a total disregard for quality finishing, even though the actual components such as the kitchen module, bathroom sinks, sexy shower etc are all of a good quality. There has been either too much silicone sealant used, or none at all. It's easy to see where it has been used to waterproof / seal joints, because that's where the mould is. The hotel is also located in the middle of a construction zone, so is noisy all the time, and the view is to die for, by which I mean if you tried to walk anywhere you would die as you have to cross an 8 lane highway to get out of the joint. Dirty fingerprints on walls, leaking taps, no compendium, a tattered old photocopied room service menu etc take away from the positives: - Free, high speed internet that was fairly consistent. - Large rooms - Cheap food - Friendly staff - Not much else I didn't pay for the room, but I'm guessing it's in the OMR 25-40 range, which is too much, as it is not really near anything except a new mosque and a shopping mall. If you are going to Oman to shop, you're crazy. I would have put a price here, but alas, the Rehab website internal links don't work... If you have your own car, can put up with the above and are on a tight budget, this may be the hotel for you, or your clients if you don't like them. Otherwise avoid. Ramee Guestline is better and you can see my review for that hotel here on Trip Advisor as well. Avoid if you can.
