Dear Madam The Strand has featured as a Yangon landmark for over a century, and so too has the tradition of allowing smoking in Sarkies bar, a rare occurrence within any European or Western establishment. The Strand remains mindful of the issues surrounding passive smoking, and at no time are either our guests or staff subjected to intolerable levels that would directly affect their health, particularly within the confines of our designated smoking area, and we apologize if you experienced any discomfort as a result of our policy. Our staff and management would certainly intervene should the levels of smoke be regarded as either detrimental, or in the interest of public health, although we are fortunate to have not yet been required to address an issue of this nature to date.
