The closest one is in 10 minutes from the hotel- University (red line). There are few others within 15-20 minutes walk as well - Golden Gates, Teatralna, Khreshchatik. Nevertheless, taxi service is not too expensive in Kyiv, thus I suggest to use taxi instead (Uber, Uklon etc)

There is a small supermarket about 6 minutes walk up the hill from the hotel. It depends what you want to buy but they had basic needs for me, toiletries, shaving foam etc, all the stuff that gets confiscated at the airport if you only have hand luggage. The staff at the Opera would give you a better idea for bigger, there are bigger ones nearby.
