After reading the great reviews on tripadvisor we decided to visit Tad Thong. We were one of the first people to have camped there. It was such a peaceful night in the fresh air and it was a lovely break from the hotels! Great price as well! We slept in a sala (I think that is what it was called) and they provided us with a mosquito net, blankets, pillows and a mat to sleep on. It was definitely a highlight of our stay in Laos. It was beautiful and very tranquil and there were very few tourists when we went. We also went swimming in the lake. The walk is great. The path is paved and there are bins all the way around. A lot of work has gone into the trail and we didn't see a single person as we walked around. There is also a dirt path leading from the main trail and if you follow this you will find yourself in a little village that hasn't been touched by tourism. It was great to see the villagers just getting on with their everyday lives as you walk though. No-one trying to sell things. Having said that we bought a packet of chips from a tiny store there for 500 kip. We also followed a road going out of the village and there was a little school there. The food and the restaurant was delicious. One morning we were asked if we wanted to have a traditional Laos breakfast, that wasn't on the menu. It was sticky rice with veggies in a sauce. It was delicious! Although we were told they ran out of veggies, so one of the guys had to go fetch some from the jungle! One afternoon there were some locals hanging out playing a game at the restaurant and they invited us to join them, which was really enjoyable. All in all it was a fantastic couple of days and I would highly recommend people go before everyone discovers how awesome this place is and it gets busy.…
