Right across the street from a subway station, this hotel was a great place to stay as I explored Shanghai. Breakfast was good, service was excellent, room very clean & the robot delivering things was fun. I appreciated the calm vibe, will stay again.

Love our experience for this price point.
Modern and cheerful. Young staff at front desk a bit clueless but friendly. Best speak to more seasoned staff.
Needed to get familiar with using the table auto controls to adjust lights, room temperatures, auto window shades open/close. One night the lights had a mind of its own, turned on and off by itself. We reset entire room with keycard and it stopped.
Delivered anything we needed, like blankets etc. Cooling and heating HVAC and shower temperature worked fine for us, contrary to another commentator reported exp’d. Just had to learn how to use their temperature control that took a bit of learning.
Bit hard mattress compared to the US Hyatt ones, si be mindful; but less harder mattress than typical China hotels that locals are used to. Love the clean line look.

+1
Checked on Nov 20 for a night transit in Shanghai. The hotel looks charming and clean. The front office staffs are young and efficient. The room is simple but neat, clean modern and has everything needed.
However, I faced two contrast issues related to temperature which made my stay uncomfortable. It is a common winter problem in China, the room temperature. It is chilling outside around 10C at night in Shanghai, the room stays around 28C if I have the air conditioner on for the fan mode just to get the ventilation. This doesn’t bring good sleep quality especially since the hotel comes with a very good quality down feather comforter. This temperature is warmer than summer. I called the service staff, seems like it is a common problem drawn their attention. Immediately offered to send me an electric fan and have the window open which helps a bit, not perfect. Some hotel air conditioners do bring in fresh air helps to bring the room temperature which is a better solution. The housekeeping staff are nice and efficient bringing the fan and drinking water to my room. Hotels also use the tech gadget, using robots to send requested amenities to the guest room. You could use voice commands like Siri or Google Assistant like to request extra amenities in the room. In these short manpower days, this is definitely a good idea.
Another problem I face at night is when I step in the shower. I would like to have a hot shower. It is different preferences between people but in this hotel, the hot water temperature is like warm water for drinking, not hot enough for a shower even when I turn to the hot water to the max. I called the service line and they thought I had mixed up the direction of the mixer so I only got cold water. They sent the first staff member to my room and found it was not the case. He simply told me this is the temperature for the whole building. Then he called the duty manager, Martin to come to my room. Again he said that is the warmest water they could have. He called the engineer Gu 顾红辉 on the phone. I can hear the conversation they have on the phone Gu insists that is normal and unwilling to do anything about it. He said the temperature is around 40+C. He also asked me to run the water for a while to bring up the temperature which I did. Should I waste the water for an hour down the drain to see the result? Another excuse given was even if he adjusted the temperature, it would not turn hot immediately and would take time. I said how about an hour later. Gu told Martin temperature is set by an outside contractor which surprised me. What is the job of an engineer in a hotel? I asked if Gu could offer a thermometer so we know the temperature by number which will be more factual than my feelings and his feelings. He said no. If an engineer is without a thermometer, how can he check the common issue like about mentioned Aircon, Room, and water temperature? Very incapable and unreliable engineer. In short, he doesn’t address the issues that he may think it is working just not up to the guest's expectations but not my problem, and take no accountability.
I hope the management could address these properly, customer experiences and attitude of those incapable staff without accountability. I asked Martin if the shower water at home was like this and obviously the answer was not. Martin as the duty manager for the night was trying hard to help but he seemed reluctant to give strong requests to Gu which I believe is due to respect but this doesn’t solve the problem. I hope this is not the effect of a shortage of manpower, difficult to hire!
By the way, staffs came to my room stepping in and out of the wet shower, they left all the water footprints on my floor behind without cleaning up or simply offering a new floor mat. This is a small issue but everything counts towards the guest experience.
Lastly, another problem I have found in the room, the safety box in the room is not safe. It is loosely free sitting in the cabinet not a single screw tie to the cabinet. The whole safe could be taken away from the cabinet without damaging anything.
I hope the management can address the issues mentioned above properly.

For a fair price, you get to stay at a brand new hotel in the heart of Jingan and steps away from the metro station. Hotel also comes with a laundry room which usage is complimentary. The laundry room is housed together with the gym so you can also do some workout while waiting. The hotel also uses robots to deliver your food delivery so you can receive your food at the comfort of your room.

Overall a good stay and solid choice considering the price (<500 on a fall weekend) and reasonably center-ish location (1.3 km or so from Jingan Temple).
For a recent visit to Shanghai, had see this UrCove (is it just me, or an awful-sounding English name?) - which was the first location opening last year out of a JV between Chinas budget economy titan Homeinns and Hyatt. It seems like it’s the next in a series of attempts like Jinjiang and Hampton Inns or Huazhu’s longtime Accor Ibis/Novotel/Mercure partnership to rapidly scale mid tier ish brands across China.
Observations on this visit
+ They are working really hard to create a vibrant lobby/cafe atmosphere, investing in a lot of Halloween decorations, trying to get a bit more interesting with some of the food and coffee, etc. And while I’m sure the holiday helped - it actually seemed to be working. We literally saw what seemed to be (upper) middle aged couples from the neighborhood dining there. But - while this will work in central Shanghai, I would not have the same expectation in well 99% of the rest of the country…
+ The staff seemed a bit poorly trained. When I got to the hotel after my wife, in giving me a room card they deactivated my wife’s card - and this subsequently happened again the other way when my wife deactivated her card. My wife apparently also switched rooms 2x before the room we got the final 12th floor room - originally a low floor right next to construction, and a second room that hadn’t been fully cleaned yet. Furthermore no acknowledgement of my low level Explorist Hyatt status was mentioned; will be interesting to see if we get the points.
+ The room felt like they took a Home Inn (or maybe a brand up from that?) and bought nicer furnishings, and did a bit more on the shower area. Actually they invested significantly in some areas - I was surprised to see a Nespresso machine, Tibet 5100 water (ok not that expensive anymore), a desk side voice activated service assistant, and a Japanese style bidet toilet. Other than that the furnishings were quite simple - small desk and chair, simple bedside platforms, a little open closet area at entry. The bed was ok - it was more padded then you’ll get in a more basic Chinese place, but certainly not the best, though the sheets were ok. It’s definitely less built out and despite the inconsistent premium touches, not to the level I’d expect of a Hyatt Place / Hyatt House.
+ The location as mentioned is close to central Jing’an (and even closer to say Yuyuan Lu and lots of restaurants etc), but the immediate surroundings next to the city headquarters of the Public Safety Bureau is not the most attractive with little commercial, and is impacted by pretty significant construction right now. As many many time Shanghai visitors, we enjoyed the broader location as it got us to slightly different parts of the city, but it’s not the first recommendation I’d give for a new visitor.
Anyway, a solid experience. With a bit more training and process standardization, this could be a quite competitive place to stay (and was fine enough this time). Despite the “Hyatt” badge, I can’t say I would necessarily choose it in the future over the many Chinese players in roughly similar price ranges - Atour, Orange, etc unless the location or price would be better.
