The owner is a gentleman who was available at all times to meet our needs at every turn. The view is as breathtaking as advertised and we were supplied with enough wood to build many bond fires. An excellent stop over for a night or two at which you will feel vary much at home.
Booked two rooms for 11th December. Both rooms were booked as en-suite. Upon arrival the owner was not there, and the Lady who helped us could not find our booking. Eventually, I found it by looking at a load of 'scribbles' in a book and our booking was referred to by first name only and in very poor handwriting, so was hard for me to find also. The book was right next to a laptop so why the laptop was not referred to I do not know. Upon eventually being shown to our rooms, my room (Room 1) was NOT en-suite. There was a toilet, hand basin and shower cubicle across the corridor, which simply had a 'Toilet' sign on the door. I was not happy about this as this was obviously also intended as a public toilet for general guests. When we complained, we were told that the lodge was full so no other rooms were available. The owner eventally arrived and shouted down her cell phone to someone in the corridor which woke me up from a nap after my long drive. I then wanted a beer later that afternoon, and there was total confusion of what was available at the small bar area which looked like a prison with all the security bars around it. Whilst having a beer, other guests arrived, and again, the owner was nowhere to be seen, and again, the new guests could not seem to ascertain what rooms they were booked into. We were then told that there would be no breakfast the following morning, after having paid R100 each in advance. We were told that the R200 would be refunded, but as the owner was again nowhere to be seen the following morning upon checking out, we had to wait whilst one of the staff members went to find the owner. The owner was on site but chose not to speak to us in person, just relaying our refund via a member of staff. All of the rooms open out to the enclosed pool area and guest sitting areas, so if you want a peaceful night, then you had better hope that other guests are not having a party in the pool area right outside your room! Generally speaking, a very poor experience and we will not be stayng there again.…
We stayed for 3 nights at this lodge. The owner is very friendly as well as the staff. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. The indoor pool is heated and the entertainment area great to relax in with a book. We truly enjoyed our stay and will be back forsure
Fish Eagle Lodge in Gariep is a great overnight stop staff are friendly and amenities were great. Accommodation was comfortable and air-conditioning was most welcome as the location was very hot when we visited.
Nice place to overnight on the way to the Cape with a family. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool. Aircons in the flat/rooms were a very welcomed relief from the intense heat. The view of the dam was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
