Visitors to Anjouan are few and far between so hotel choice is limited. Hotel des Iles is OK - just. Staff are very pleasant, bed comfortable but electricity (and thus aircon) is intermittent, as is the water supply. If you have to visit, this was probably the best around.

Wirklich kurz vor Toresschluß ab Mitte März mit den Reiseeinschränkungen und -verboten hatten wir die Gelegenheit drei wundervolle Tage im Hôtel des îles zu verleben. Ein ausgezeichneter Service, fabelhaftes Essen und sehr gute Zimmer sind uns in bester Erinnerung. Die jetzige Reisesituation wird dem Tourismus sicher sehr schaden. Besonders deshalb möchten wir hoffen, daß auch mit Beginn einer neuen Saison und Reisemöglichkeiten die erlebten Annehmlichkeiten erhalten bleiben. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Professionally and smartly run small hotel in the north-eastern section of Mutsamudu. Friendly and helpful management. Ca. 4 rooms with different amenities - some have A/C, some have warm water, some have mosquito nets - some don’t. If you have specific requests or needs you may want to double-confirm a little bit ahead of time in order to “guarantee” your selection of room as otherwise your preferred room may have been assigned to other guests, as the hotel needs to balance supply with demand (it is cash-only and cannot accommodate credit cards, hence understandably it needs to allow for no-shows). Basic electricity available 24/7 (via hotel-owned solar panels); “full electricity” (including A/C and WiFi) depending on general availability of electricity in Mutsamudu - in September 2019 only reliably available during the night; I understand the hotel is in the process of installing additional solar panels in order to become fully autonomous. Clean rooms. Nice porch with a great view of the bay. Walking distance to all sights in town. Various mini-markets nearby. Good breakfast provided, lunch and / or dinner available. Small public beach at Hotel El Amal nearby. – A good and recommended choice in Mutsamudu (where choices are very limited, to be sure).…
