Part three of my business trip to Asia, see profile for the other two, this had me here for one night passing through with a meeting the following day before moving on again.
I chose this after consulting with colleagues meeting the following day. When away I will always choose a corporate hotel in case of emergency (dentist etc.) and a certain level of accommodation in terms of sleep and wellness.
Even though a Hampton is considered low end on the Hilton scale, I compare them to the Express version of IHG. The hotel is a 5 minute taxi ride from the station, (10 RMB or £1). You can walk from the station, but after train travel and meetings, a taxi works for me.
Check in was surprisingly easy, my details on file, reservation etc. and off to the room in no time at all. Arriving late at night, post 9 pm there was confusion whether the restaurant was open or not. Finally told it was but closed at 10 pm. So a quick dash to the room, drop luggage then down to the hotel restaurant.
The restaurant was hot, no tables laid, no one in it, and menu only in Chinese with pictures. Somehow we managed to order some food, and waited, and waited and waited...... In between the first and second wait we asked for some drinks. A coke, beer and glass of red wine. The coke arrived hot and no glass. The beer arrived and was even hotter, no glass, yet the (hot) wine arrived in a glass. We asked for ice for the coke, no ice. we asked for a colder beer which did come, but with a coffee cup, same for the coke.
If nothing else, never drink beverages from cans when abroad. You have no clue what has been on the can or where it has been stored before it gets to you. We pushed for glasses and colder beverages.
We later worked out they had no drinks in the restaurant, and went next door to the corner shop to get what we wanted. We know this as we saw the same beer at the same room temperature along with the same coke (and advertising) and wine in the shop. We also saw the same beverages in the shop fridge, so why all the pa-lava trying to get a cold drink.............and a glass.
When the food finally arrived, it was fine and tasty if not a bit spicy. We joked it had probably been bought from the same shop as the beer, coke and wine.
We wanted to charge the food to the room, as normal, but this was impossible to explain to the server who spoke no English at all. We were asked to pay by card, and probably could, but prefer to keep receipts to a minimum, and pushed to charge to room. This went back and forth for a good 40 minutes. I finally relented and offered to get my c/card and, would you believe, accompanied to my room to get my card, then to reception to pay. On check out I noticed I had been charged twice for the food. Once on the evening.......paid and on the hotel invoice, and a separate charge which needed post work to get refunded.
It doesn't get any better from here..........Back to the room I needed an iron and board for a shirt. Nothing in the room, and now onto reception for an iron and board. Lost in translation someone from housekeeping appeared at my door, and after acting out how to iron a shirt, she reappeared with a stand up steam press contraption. Between us we made it work and shirt steamed (creases removed).
The room itself was clean, good a/c, bathroom and fine for one night. Never used the TV but assume local stations only.
Breakfast was included in the rate and actually not too bad. If there was an Asian version of continental, this was it. A few cold meets and rolls plus a lot of local noodles and Chinese options.
After check out, we left............and I do not plan to return again.
Team Hilton need to up their standards to improve the service level and a slightly better grasp of English.

+1
Jamy
同时刘芳这个名字对我来说也是有一些特殊,是青涩的青春回忆,回想起很多,可惜我已经老了

Good enough for a night, doubt that many international travelers visit here. There was a problem with checkin as the staff could not accept foreign credit cards, luckily my local friend was there so we were able to pay with a China issued card.
Hotel is fairly new and rooms were quite spacious, was actually surprised by the size and amenities of the room considering this is a Hampton.
Breakfast had good local options and a nice variety. English speaking staff were non existent
