Me and my boyfriend had a wonderful 4 nights in The Carrick Rooms! Warm welcome with a lovely view. THE COMFIEST BED! and one day we even got delivered fresh scones (which were delish). I would highly recommend for any one staycationing or visiting the IOM! We loved relaxing in the room on the foggy mornings over sea and the view is great! Can't complain at all. Clean, bright and comfy! 10/10 stay.
Our recent stay at Carrick Rooms in Port st Mary was superb. We were greeted warmly by Nick who showed us to the rooms and answered our questions regarding the best things to do around the south of the Island. The room itself was very clean and cosy with a continental breakfast included. Luckily the sun was out for our stay so we enjoyed the local walks around the beautiful town of Port st Mary and ventured into Castletown one afternoon (20 minutes on the bus). We will most definitely be staying here again when visiting the Island. One extra tip is to make sure you go to the cafe underneath, also run by Nick, which serves excellent coffee. I had the soup of the day which was lovely and my partner went for a scone. Top Marks!
Good things: Adrienne the owner is lovely & helpful, she went to Tesco specially to get gluten free bread as one of us is Coeliac. Adrienne had got food in - bread, butter, milk, ham, cheese, juice, fruit, hot drinks. The shower is amazing! The bathroom is modern and clean. Cross the road outside, down the slope/steps and you’re on Chapel Beach. Bad things: It’s an old Victorian boarding house I think, done up a bit. First impression of the dark hall & stairs wasn’t inspiring. We were at the back of the house so no view. Our room was a bit pokey, as they’d squeezed the bathroom into the corner of a double room. Another corner was taken up by the ‘kitchenette’; a sink, fridge, shelves & kettle. Twin beds a bit saggy. Worst thing: the fridge switched itself on in the night and sounded like a generator starting up! Never heard anything like it. It was attached to the sink and shelves so the whole lot joined in as it vibrated. Enough to wake both of us up several times 🙁…
As above, the room was well furnished but the walls and ceiling were very poorly insulated from noise. The room floors are bare wood so you can hear everything from outside the door to the room above, and it is exactly like the person talking / stomping about is in your own room. They might as well be as you can hear every word of their conversation. I had 3.5 hours sleep last night as a result of this, much the same the night before. This property in my opinion is no good for a business trip. It is the worst place I have ever stayed for noise.
