We had a lovely stay at the lock keepers cottage. It had everything you needed and a really comfortable bed. It was very clean and had amazing views and always something to see on the lock. Parking was no problem. We had a lovely meal at the Bothy.. A nice walk down to the loch and round by the Abbey.

Old Lock-Keepers Cottage & Ness View Cottage are housed in the same original building but subdivided with separate entrances. I stayed in Ness View Cottage for 3 nights & found it to be a pleasant place to stay in with all the amenities needed to self cater. I would have liked to try out the log burner fire but was in & out around Fort Augustus most of the day so didn't really get a chance to try it. The cottage is well located in Fort Augustus with the added benefit of being able to park your car on the gravel driveway which is convenient & allows unpacking/packing of items from the car. As the name of the cottage suggests, it is right next to the canal locks & in spring/summer you can observe boats negotiating the lock system to gain access to & from Loch Ness. Fort Augustus is a very pleasant small town with plenty of amenities all within walking distance. The owners, Brian & Elaine were very pleasant & helpful.

This two bed apartment was very dirty, not obvious at first glance, filthy skirting boards the bathroom is tiny and also really dirty on the window sill and above the blind and behind the door, I arrived in the late evening, there was nothing in the apartment not even a loo roll! considering it’s a self. catering place, no tea towel or oven glove, no cleaning cloth, the kitchen equipment is very limited. I stayed for 3 weeks on business bedding and towels only changed once in the whole stay!
