We stayed as a family (2 aduts and 6&9 yo. kids) in the beginning of July. The Villa is built in beautiful traditional style and is very well equipped and kept, everything was very clean and working. The view from the balconies facing the ocean is fabulous. Location is good, very close to the old town center and the promenade with cafes and restaurants. Sandy beaches are a bit further and we drove by car for about 15-20 minutes to Glowe or to Binz etc.

Unkomplizierter Vermieter.

The accomodations were great. Because we went in March, we had the whole place to ourselves. It was clean and we had plenty of room, with a kitchen, living room and bedroom. Felt very homey and comfortable. The view over the town was great. It's a short walk to the waterfront or hiking in Jasmund park. While the owner didn't speak English well, between his limited English and my limited German, we were able to commuicate just fine. We would definately stay there again.

The person who booked our hotel over the phone did not speak English well, and was very misleading about the price of the stay per night. He indicated over the phone that he had an available pension for 2 people for 70.00 euros including breakfast, but then after arriving (after 7 hours on a long train ride, and walking 1.5 miles from the main station to the pension office), he told us at check-in that it would cost us 70.00 euros per night without breakfast (15.00 euros per person extra for breakfast per day), and then 35.00 euros additional for housekeeping at the end of the stay! We could not believe it, as he told us over the phone that the final cost for 2 persons would be 70.00 euros per night (2 nights = 140.00)! Moral of the story, always ask for email confirmation so that you have a negotiated rate in writing at the time of check-in! (Especially if you don't speak the language well!) In addition to all of this confusion, the pension was absolutely huge! Big enough to sleep 6 people...or maybe more. We didn't need all of this space...it had a pull out sleeper-couch, 2 bedrooms with doublebeds, tons of closet/dresser space to store clothing, 1 bathroom with a shower, a kitchenette with all appliances-- including a microwave, fridge & stove-top (no oven). The deck had a great view complete with table & chairs, &sunchairs..it overlooked the Baltic sea , but we could see onto our neighbor's decks below & to each side of us...so not enough privacy. The walls were thin, and we could hear the sounds of our neighbors who lived there year-round (or, at least for the entire summer). We were on the top floor of this 2 level building, but the stairs were very steep to climb and it would be hard for someone who is not ambulatory since there is no elevator. In addition, at around midnight on our first night staying there, someone climbed up our stairwell...(there was only 1 other pension door on our floor, and this pension belonged to the family who lived there year-round, or at least for the summer)...and tried to open our door-- jiggling the lock & door several times before giving up and heading back downstairs. The door did not lock automatically upon closing it, it locked from the inside with the key...luckily we knew about this type of European door and had locked it up for the night. Otherwise, who knows what would have happened...a potential break-in? Other than these issues, the location was great (about 1/2 mile from Jasmund National Park & the chalkcliffs walk). The port town of Sassnitz was interesting and naturally beautiful & peaceful (we thought it was a much better place to stay than the touristy town of Binz to the south on Insel Rugen). It was definitely a nice location to explore the park from...but, since Sassnitz is a port town and by definition, a thru-way for a lot of people traveling to and from Scandinavia...I am guessing that this provides more opportunity for crime since there are lot of people passing thru the town each day. Either way, during the day & evening, we felt completely safe in Sassnitz...it was just late at night that we did not feel completely at ease since we had the strange experience during our first night. Overall, I would recommend that someone visiting Insel Rugen stay either in the town of Sassnitz in accomodations overlooking the Ostsee- or perhaps in a more northern town closer to Kap Arkrona (such as Putgarten).
